Spokefest Part 2

Well.... As it turns out, Spokefest was a huge success. I was glad to have been asked to take part in the documentation of this inaugural ride. Hats off to the organizers, vendors, and all of the riders who showed their support for a biker friendly Spokane. Here are a few more shots from the day.

Here is a shot of the starting line moments before the ride began.

All of the riders are off.... Heading towards the Court House.

Here are a few riders loungin' around before the start of the kid's ride.

One of the many young riders to come out for the beautiful morning of biking.

The ride up Doomsday Hill was tough, but everyone made it up.

Here's lookin' ahead to many more successful Spokefests.

Work Portraits

When I was asked to take the head shots for work this summer, I decided to take a different approach at each site. I thought that I would try a light, medium gray, and black background using a one, two and three light set-up. You may be surprised at which background had the least number of lights. Oh yeah.... There was no PhotoShop trickery done here.

The first set-up is three lights. A main light to the right of the camera, a hair light to the left of and behind the subject, and the final light aimed towards a white sheet of background paper. Here are a couple of shots with that set-up.

Next I used a single light to the right of the subject and had them backed up against a white background. Here are a couple of shots from that set-up.

Finally, I went dark with one light to the right of the subject, a reflector on the left, with the final light directly behind the subject pointed back at the camera. Here are a couple of shots from that set-up.

Nick

I had the chance to shoot an urban themed senior portrait session for Nick. We started out at a train track and ended up near the Spokane Arena. We had a great time making these images. Here are a few from the session.

Spokefest

Well...... I can't say that the first annual Spokefest went without a hitch. But who wouldn't love the hitch that they had...... More than twice the number of riders they expected!! It was amazing!! Bike riders of all ability and fitness levels came out in force today to celebrate bicycling in Spokane.

The day started off with a tasty pancake breakfast and finished off with a vendor fair. There were many groups with booths including Fat Tire Trail Riders and Wheelsport which is my old sponsor from my downhillin' days.

With two different routes, Spokefest is not only a great way to celebrate cycling but it is great for those new to or thinking about biking. The long route is a 21 mile loop that winds it's way out towards Riverside State Park and back to downtown Spokane. The shorter loop is a one-mile course through Riverfront park. The short loop can be done as many times as you wish which was great for the little cyclists and those who are working on improving their level of fitness.

It was a privilege to be the official photographer for the inaugural event. Here are a few of the more artistic shots of the day. The rest will be up in a couple of weeks.

I'd like everyone to meet Hank. I've known him for a few years through my job with school district 81. Not only did he show up (with his parents of course) but he rode the 21 mile loop in just over two hours!! Way to go Hank!! Here is his first shot at modelling. Pretty good, huh?

Bridal Festival Number One

Well..... Shawnia was gracious enough to help out with my first bridal fair. It went really well. I had a blast meeting all of the couples, their parents and friends. There was a lot of great and overwhelmingly positive feedback about my photography, the packages available and the products that I offer.

Thanks to all who stopped by. I'll be looking forward to seeing at least a few of you soon.

Congratulations to Leesa McCall, winner of the engagement session raffle.

Amanda and Taylor

So..... Last fall I got a very enthusiastic call from a young and happy couple who were interested in hiring me to shoot their wedding for them. I met up with them and happily agreed.

During their engagement shoot, I found out that Amanda had gotten a position at the school that I work at. A crazy little coincidence that turned into a great opportunity to get to know one of my clients quite a bit better than I normally do.

When their wedding date finally arrived, I think I was just about as excited as they were. It was so much fun capturing the festivities for them. I think it shows up pretty regularly in the images that we made together.

Congratulations to Amanda and Taylor. Shawnia and I wish them many happy, healthy years together.

Here are a few shots of the day. You can see the rest here.
