Not Your Mom's Portraits

I was asked to shoot a few portraits for one of the Breakers soccer teams. The coaches asked for the typical 'line up in the goal' pics. I agreed to do that, but set the girls up for a dramatic shot at the end. I had less than five minutes to set the shot up and snap two frames. If I had had more time, the shadow on the girl's face (just right of center) wouldn't be there. Even so, they were very happy with the result.

If you know of any teams that would like a less than traditional portrait shoot, tell them about Dave Ryan Photography. The question I asked myself on the way to this shoot was,"What would I do if I were shooting a Nike or Reebok ad?"

A big thanks to the girls who endured the cold, windy and early Saturday morning with smiles. Thanks also to my good friend Bill for the design of the memory mate.

Here are a few pics from the session. You can see the rest here.

Photography 101....... Sort of.

Shawnia and I went out to shoot a few fall portraits. The colors are amazing right now and will be disappearing very soon. I will miss the greens and golds as they fade to gray (most of you know that I am no fan of winter).

Here are a few pics from the session. Happy fall everyone!!

Maria and Jared

Maria and Jared are a happy couple expecting their first child in a few weeks. They asked me to shoot a few maternity portraits for them. They allowed me a little artistic licence which is always nice.

These are a few of my favorites. You can see the rest here.

How 'bout those kids?

Waking up at 5:30 a.m. and heading into a work isn't always the easiest thing to do. Especially after a late night in front of the computer editing pictures, designing a wedding album or working on a blog post. Once I get to work and see these faces, it isn't hard to understand why I still do it.

I shot some portraits for a bulletin board that will be up at the school I work at. These are some of the results. Their personalities really shine. It always amazes me how much energy the kids have and how much fun they are to be around.

A HUGE thank you to the families that allowed me to post these pictures on the web. I hope you enjoy seeing the images as much as I enjoyed making them.

Shawnia's Jog

It is a rare thing for me to take pictures for myself lately. Something that I really miss. I went out with Shawnia over the weekend to take a few jogging shots. They weren't quite what I had in mind since the rain didn't allow me to bring the lights along, but we had fun anyways. Here are a few from the session.

Thanks to Shawnia for enduring the weather and repeated requests to "....run that section again."

Micaela and Matt

I met Micaela at Val and Robbie's wedding this past July. She and her husband Matt, asked me to shoot some maternity portraits for them. They were a lot of fun to work with and I hope to be taking pictures of their newborn in the very near future.

Here are a couple of my favorites. You can see the rest here. You should click through to check out the rest of the pics. The sunset was incredible!!

Emily and Patrick's Album Showcase

Emily and Pat's album showcase is up. Their personalities really shine through (especially during the cutting of the cake). You can check it out here.
